Conservatism Rising?

From the hacks at Yahoo! news:

"In what could be a nightmare scenario for Republican Party officials, conservative activists are gearing up to challenge leading GOP candidates in more than a dozen key House and Senate races in 2010."

OK, lets get past the piss poor reporting style of Yahoo! news in general and look at what is going on inside the Republican party. For a long time, centrist republicans have held the standard on the right. The conservatives are now slowly but constantly changing that. After eight years of moderate, "social conservatism"(!) true conservatives are have had enough.

Now, Yahoo! news writes this off as a "nightmare scenario". Nothing could be further from the truth. Purging moderates out of the republican party means winning elections. While this may lead to some lost seats in the short term, in the long term it means a Republican party that's unified and with a solid, easy to understand platform. Moving the republican party to the center, like many republicans want to do, is just another way of making the party more like the democrats.
